Press Conference At The Green Room

Date: Monday 21st January, 2013
Time: 12:00 pm
Venue: The Green Room, Duke Street

On Monday 21st January 12 pm  there will be a Shrewsbury 24 Campaign press conference The Green Room Duke St., Liverpool.

For the 3rd time the goverment have decided to keep papers relating to the Shrewsbury Trial under a “security blanket”. In a letter Lord Chancellor Chris Grayling states that:

On 19 December 2011 Kenneth Clarke signed a new instrument which records that he has given his approval for the retention of records within scope of the exemption provided by section 23 of the Freedom of Information Act. The information relating to the Shrewsbury Trials is covered by this security instrument.

This “instrument” will be in place until 31st December 2021.

The speakers will be challenging the issue of security and secrecy which is behind the governments decision to continue to withhold the documents. They will  pose the question as to why information surrounding an industrial dispute is being withheld under section 23 of the Freedom of Information Act, which deals specifically with national security. They will make the point that the pickets ages range from 64-84 which makes the time factor on release of the documents an important factor.

The MP’s will pledge their support and to continue the fight in parliament and the Trade Unions will pledge to circulate the e-petition to all their respective members.

They will be calling on the government  to release the documents appertaining to the Shrewsbury trials now.

Speakers to include:

  • Ricky Tomlinson
  • Joe Anderson Mayor of Liverpool
  • Sheila Coleman Hillsborough Justice Campaign.
